What happened to FlashNote?
Older guides, including an earlier version of this page, describe FlashNote as a premium note you could attach to a Like, with daily limits. None of that is confirmed anywhere official today: the App Store description names Likes, the SuperCrush and the CrushTime game, and the help centre explains those features but has no FlashNote article. If your app still shows an older term, follow what the app itself shows.
How to message someone before a Crush now
- Like: secret. The other person only finds out if they Like you too, and then it becomes a Crush.
- SuperCrush: a personalised message you can send before you have a Crush. You react to something specific, such as a photo, their description or where you crossed paths. They get a notification and can accept or refuse it.
- Crush: a mutual Like. From there you can chat for free.
According to happn’s help centre, a Premium subscription includes 5 SuperCrushs and Premium subscribers can buy more in the happn store. Prices and options vary by country and are shown in the app. Full details: happn SuperCrush guide.
When a first message is worth sending
- You share a place or a routine, and you can mention it in general terms.
- Their profile has a detail you genuinely want to ask about.
- Your own profile is ready: the notification sends them straight to it.
Skip it when the profile gives you nothing to react to, or when you would only send the line you send everyone.
What to write
React to one thing, add a little of yourself, and end with an easy question.
- About where you crossed paths: "Looks like we both spend Saturday mornings around the market. Favourite stall?"
- About a shared interest: "Fellow coffee enthusiast! Which place in the neighbourhood actually gets the flat white right?"
- About a photo: "That trail in your second photo looks great. Is it close to the city?"
Stay general about places. "Around the market" is friendly; describing what someone wore or the exact time you saw them is not.
Mistakes to avoid
- "Hey" on its own: it wastes a SuperCrush and gives them nothing to answer.
- Copy-paste messages: they read exactly like what they are.
- Too forward or too long: a first message is two or three sentences.
- Following up after silence: a new SuperCrush only replaces the previous one, and silence is an answer too.
CrushTime: another way to get a Crush
When you are eligible, happn sends a notification: a grid of 4 profiles appears and you guess which one already Liked you. The first try is free; to play again you use a SuperCrush. Choosing a profile sends that person a Like by default, so pick only someone you would actually want to talk to.
Get your profile ready first
Every first message sends people to your profile, so make sure the first photo is recent, sharp and clearly you. If your photos are dark, old or all selfies, The Ultimate Profile can generate realistic photos from your own pictures; keep only the ones that look exactly like you.
