Fruitz is still live after its founders bought it back from Bumble in 2025. Here is how to choose recent, recognisable photos that fit the fruit you pick.
Fruitz is still running. Bumble announced in February 2025 that it would close the app, but the three co-founders bought it back later that year, and the app is still listed and updated on the App Store. The best Fruitz photos are recent, show your face clearly and fit the intention your fruit signals: a Cherry profile can look more settled than a Peach one.

Is Fruitz still available?
Yes. Bumble bought Fruitz in 2022 and said in February 2025 that it would discontinue Fruitz and its couples app Official to focus on Bumble and Badoo. Fruitz did not disappear: by September 2025 its co-founders Julian Kabab, Fabrice Bascoulergue and Arnaud Ruols had bought the app back from Bumble, and the iOS app was still receiving updates in 2026. Articles that say Fruitz closed in 2025 describe the announcement, not what happened next.
According to Le Monde du Droit, Fruitz users are mainly in France, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada. If the app is not offered in your country's store, the photo advice below works just as well on Bumble or Hinge, where you state your intentions in your profile instead of with a fruit.
What each fruit means, and the photos that fit
Your fruit tells people what you are looking for before they see a single photo. The meanings below come from the app's own store description. Older guides, including an earlier version of this page, mixed some of them up, so check the explanation in your app as well.

Whatever you pick, choose the fruit that matches what you want now. Picking a different one to reach more people only leads to matches who expect something else.
Your first photo: clear, recent, solo
The first photo has to answer one question: who is this? Use a recent solo picture in which your face is easy to see.
- Face the light, ideally daylight from a window or outdoors in the shade.
- No sunglasses, heavy filters or extreme angles.
- Crop from the chest up so your face fills a good part of the frame.
- Choose an expression that looks like you on a good day, not a pose you never make.
- Check how the crop looks inside the app before you save.
A varied lineup you can adapt
Fruitz does not publish a required photo count in its store listing, so fill the slots your app shows with distinct pictures rather than near-duplicates. These roles work for every fruit:
- Portrait: the clear solo shot described above.
- Full body: a recent photo in clothes you actually wear.
- Activity: cooking, climbing, playing music, anything you really do.
- Social moment: a small group of consenting friends where you are easy to spot.
- Different setting: another place, outfit or expression.
- Conversation starter: a detail someone can ask about, like a book, a dish or a trip.
Photos that work against you
- Group shots as the first photo, where nobody knows which person you are.
- Pictures that are several years old or no longer look like you.
- A gallery of selfies taken in the same spot.
- Photos with an ex, even cropped.
- Screenshots or images compressed so often that they look blurry.
- Backgrounds that reveal your address, workplace badge or car plate.
Fruitz features that put your photos in front of more people
Fruitz is free to download and use. According to its App Store listing, Fruitz Premium adds unlimited likes, Pollen (a boost that moves your profile up) and daily Crushnotes; Fruitz Golden adds filtering by fruit, seeing who picked you and an incognito mode. A match is called a "smoothie", and you can open the chat with one of the app's ready-made questions. Prices vary by country and are shown in the app.
A boost only helps if the first photo is already clear. Fix the lineup first, then decide whether a paid feature is worth it for you.
Editing and AI-generated photos
Light corrections to brightness, colour or a messy background are fine. Do not change your face, body or age: the person who meets you should recognise you immediately. If you use AI-generated photos, keep only the ones that look exactly like you and do not show places or activities you have never been part of.
