How Long Does the Raya Application Take? Real Timelines for 2026

Filling out the Raya application takes about 15 minutes. Hearing back from the committee takes anywhere from 1 week to indefinite waitlist. The big variable is your profile strength, not the time of year.

The Application Itself: 15 Minutes Active Time

Once you have your photos and links ready, the form itself is fast.

  • Photos upload (5 photos): 3 to 5 minutes
  • Slideshow video (4 to 6 photos with music): 4 to 7 minutes
  • Links and bio: 3 to 5 minutes
  • Referral codes (if any): 30 seconds
  • Submission and confirmation: 1 minute

The trap is that most applicants spend 5 to 20 hours preparing assets before the 15-minute form. Photos, music selection, IG cleanup, LinkedIn polish.

Decision Timing by Profile Type

Once submitted, the committee review timing varies widely. Aggregated data from member-shared experiences:

  • Strong profile + 2 referrals: 7 to 21 days
  • Strong profile, no referrals: 4 to 12 weeks
  • Solid profile + 1 referral: 3 to 8 weeks
  • Solid profile, no referrals: 3 to 9 months
  • Borderline profile, any referral count: 6 to 18 months or indefinite
  • Weak profile: Indefinite waitlist (effectively a no)

Why It Takes So Long for Some Profiles

Three reasons applications stall:

  1. Committee capacity. A rotating volunteer committee reviews applications in batches. Borderline cases get deferred to next batch repeatedly.
  2. City quotas. Raya manages member growth per city. If your city is at capacity, even strong profiles wait for slots to open.
  3. Verification time. Industry credentials take longer to verify than Instagram. Without IG, expect longer reviews.

What "Indefinite Waitlist" Actually Means

Raya almost never sends a hard rejection. Instead, your application stays in a queue. Three states:

  • Active: Reviewed in the next batch. You usually hear back within 30 days.
  • Periodic review: Re-checked every 30 to 90 days. Acceptance possible if conditions change.
  • Soft hold: Effectively closed but not formally rejected. The app shows "Application Pending" indefinitely.

If you have been pending for over 12 months without communication, you are almost certainly on soft hold.

How to Check Your Status

Raya does not provide a status dashboard. The only signal is that the app changes from "Application Pending" to either "Welcome" or stays in pending. There is no way to message the committee directly.

Email support if you have been pending more than 6 months and want context. Responses are slow but possible.

Should You Reapply?

Yes, but only if something has materially changed:

  • You added a verified credential (IMDb, Spotify, press)
  • Your Instagram added 5,000+ real followers
  • You secured a new referral from an active member
  • You moved to a different city

Reapplying with the same materials resets the application but does not change the outcome. Wait at least 6 months between applications.

Best Time of Year to Apply

Anecdotally, members report that applications submitted in late January through March and September through October process faster. The committee returns from holidays and clears backlogs.

The worst times are mid-December to mid-January and August. Applications submitted then often sit for an extra month.

Common Mistakes That Slow Things Down

  • Vague bio. If the committee cannot tell what you do, they defer.
  • Inconsistent links. If your LinkedIn says one thing and your IG says another, verification takes longer.
  • Low-effort slideshow. Random photos with random music gets pushed to next batch.
  • Stale Instagram. If you applied with an inactive IG, the committee waits to see if you will start posting.

Speeding Up the Decision

You cannot directly speed up the committee, but you can move yourself out of the slow queue:

  1. Get a referral after submitting. Existing members can flag your application. Often pulls you into the next batch.
  2. Add a credential update. If you get press or a new verified credit, edit your profile. The system flags changes for review.
  3. Boost your Instagram engagement. The committee re-checks IG metrics on borderline profiles.

Decision Notification

When you are accepted, you get an email and an in-app notification. The transition from pending to welcome is instant. From there you have 72 hours to complete your full profile setup before access is paused for inactivity.

If declined, you simply stay in pending. There is no formal email.

Plan Your Application Timing

If you are going to apply, do these in order:

  1. Optimize Instagram for 2 to 6 months before applying
  2. Secure at least one referral if possible
  3. Prepare 5 photos and a slideshow video over 1 week
  4. Submit on a Tuesday or Wednesday in late January or September
  5. Wait 30 days minimum before checking status or following up

Photos That Pass the 8-Second Glance

The committee spends roughly 8 seconds on the photo grid in their first pass. The Ultimate Profile generates Raya-grade photos in cinematic style, designed to pass that initial filter and reward longer review.

The application is fast. The wait is the hard part. Make sure what you submit is worth the wait.
